Kompany wants RVP at City
Even though his manager has stated that City are probably out of the race to sign Robin Van Persie, Vincent Kompany has still revealed to the press that he would love to play alongside the Dutchman. As speculation continues to linger about the Arsenal forward’s future, Kompany has revealed that he is a huge admirer of the player and that he would improve any team in the world.
After announcing his intentions to leave Arsenal last month, there have been huge amounts of speculation about Van Persie’s next destination. It was originally thought that Manchester United, Juventus and City were the frontrunners, yet recent events have meant that United now appear to be favourites. In fact, Roberto Mancini seemed to declare his team out of the running for the former Feyenoord man just a couple of weeks ago, stating that he is extremely doubtful that RVP will choose to play at the Etihad Stadium next term.
Nevertheless, City skipper Kompany has given his view on the situation. Speaking to Sky Sports News, Kompany said, “It’s very easy to say you want to play next to Robin van Persie. He’s a great player. He’s proved it so many times last season and any team he would play for he’d make it stronger.”
However, it still looks unlikely for Van Persie to be playing in City colours next term. Even though Manchester United have not yet matched Arsenal’s £20m asking price, they are still seen as being more proactive in the transfer than City.
Mancini has constantly revealed his frustrations about the lack of activity at the Etihad Stadium and while the club did conclude a deal for midfielder Jack Rodwell during the week, it still looks unlikely they are going to supplement that acquisition with RVP. Moreover, with City retaining all of their strikers during the summer, some are questioning whether or not Mancini actually needs another forward.
