ENGLAND HAVE A CHANCE
Manchester City midfielder James Milner has said that he is extremely confident that this current crop of players for the national team will be able to achieve success in the forthcoming international tournaments.
England were not the favourites to win the Euro 2012, but they would have been hoping to get past the quarter-final stage of the competition, which has proved to be a major hindrance in the previous international tournaments.
However, they lost to Italy in the penalties that prevented him from getting this monkey off the back. James Milner, who has been influential for the England national team at the Euro 2012, has said that he hopes this squad will be able to prove their quality in the forthcoming international tournaments.
Even though he did not take part in the Premier league success for Manchester City as match as he would have liked to, James Milner was instrumental for England at the Euro 2012. After having avoided current champions Spain in the quarter-final stage, England would have been hoping to get into the semifinals of the competition were they would have faced Germany. However, England are once again are eliminated from a major tournament at the quarter-final stage.
“We had a great group stage and to get knocked out on penalties is hard. But look at the circumstances going into the tournament, the manager changing … the number of people dropping out. The longer we work with the manager, I’m sure we will keep getting better and better. The squad is a lot younger now. It was the first major tournament for a lot of the lads at senior level. It’s all experience and it can only stand you in good stead if we qualify for the next World Cup,” said James Milner after the Euro 2012 exit.
