LONG TERM
Manchester City’s James Milner desires his club to be more boring for the remainder of the season. The attacking department of Pellegrini’s team is so well rounded and filled with stars that have allowed Manchester City on being the team with most goals scored so far having already sealed 53 goals with their most recent match being against Liverpool as they managed to slip past them with a narrow 2-1 victory.
“We’d like to have games that are a bit more boring if we can maybe a 1-0 or 2-0,” said Milner, who may step in at right back for the visit of the current league leaders’’.
“When you are 2-0 up you like to see out the job and we did that in the end, but it would have been a big blow if we hadn’t won, going into Christmas with a lot of big games coming up.
“It would have made Christmas dinner taste worse for the fans, so it was good to get the win before two games in quick succession. We now have the momentum to go into those games and hopefully get six points.”
He later went on saying that a team which can manage to keep clean sheets will be even more important than one which is able to score but at the same time concede a lot of goals.
“You can’t get anywhere in football without scoring goals, but as a side that’s looking to improve, we can improve at the other end, as a team,” he said.
“Hopefully we can get a few more clean sheets which will be more important as the season goes on. We need to work on the mistakes we are making throughout the team – when we are conceding goals it’s not the defence and the goalkeeper, it’s the whole team’’.
